Pharmaline N

Pharmaline N

Pharmaline is a unique, genuinely smooth-bore, PTFE-lined hose product, based on a patented PTFE hose liner tube design. Pharmaline is designed to overcome the very poor flexibility of similar smooth-bore products currently available. Pharmaline N includes a grade 316 stainless steel wire braid for additional strength and resistance to high internal pressures.

The only products which can match the flexibility of Pharmaline are convoluted PTFE lined hose products, sometimes misleadingly referred to as “smooth-bore” or “smooth-flex” even when the bore is actually convoluted.

Product details

Hose Design

Pharmaline N includes a grade 316 stainless steel wire braid for additional strength and resistance to high internal pressures.
Pharmaline N hose design provides a superior alternative to silicone rubber hoses used in Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Fine Chemical manufacturing and research plants. The excellent chemical resistance of the PTFE liner, resistance to steam sterilising and ease of cleaning are important advantages in many applications.

There are two types of PTFE hose liner available. Natural PTFE (Pharmaline N or X, GP grade) and anti-static PTFE (Pharmaline N or X, AS grade).

GP

Pharmaline N, GP hose is the ‘General Purpose’ grade for use in all applications where the fluids or gases that are being conveyed do not generate a risk of static charge development (see ‘AS’).

AS

Pharmaline N, AS grade is an essential requirement in applications where there is a risk of electrostatic charge build-up on the inside surface of the PTFE tube, which may then discharge through the tube wall. Media which can create such a risk are fluids which have a conductance of less than 10-8 S/m (siemens per metre), or 10+4 pS/m such as fuels, solvents, freons, some WFI (ultra-pure Water for Injection) and non-polar organics which are being transferred at a medium to high flow velocity.
All twin or multi phase media and any non-mixing media, such as powder in air, or water droplets in steam, gases or oil. Also colloidal fluids constitute a particular hazard for static charge generation, and always require grade AS.

Alternative Products

Pharmalex is a lower pressure, lighter duty alternative to Pharmaline. Pharmalex is the same as Pharmaline, but without any wire braid, and with a transparent silicone rubber cover.

Applications

Pharmaline is designed for use in high purity pharmaceutical, biotech, chemical and food processing applications where easy cleaning of the hose is required (both internally and externally). It is suitable for use in other industrial applications, particularly those where hot fluids or gases are being transferred.

Advantages over conventional hose designs

Pharmaline can be used to replace silicone rubber hoses, particularly where much a better chemical resistance and easy of cleaning the PTFE hose liner is required.

Unlike silicone rubber hose, Pharmaline can be steam sterilised a number of times without degrading the hose liner. Pharmaline can be used to replace conventional smooth-bore PTFE lined hoses in applications where the better flexibility of Pharmaline is an advantage.

Pharmaline has a smaller O/D and is lighter in weight than similar products because the construction does not include any glass fibre filler layers. However the PTFE weight per unit length is higher.

Pharmaline N’s design provides a superior alternative to silicone rubber hoses for use in Pharmaceutical, Biotech and Fine Chemical manufacturing and research plants. The excellent chemical resistance of the PTFE liner, resistance to steam sterilising and ease of cleaning are advantageous in many applications.

Specifications

Both the PTFE liner tube and the platinum cured silicone rubber cover have been tested and conform to USP Class VI standards. In addition, the PTFE liner tube meets the requirements of USP Class VI at 121°C (250°F).
Both the braid and helix wires are high tensile grade 316L stainless steel.
Alternative colours of the silicone rubber cover are only available for Bioflex Ultra SI grade hose.
